dual exhibition T&A Tableau And Auspicious

March 18th 6-9PM during opening party of new hotel rooms including Fore-Sea (4C) collaboration between Brian Dowdall and Alison Spiesman. Five other rooms will be open for viewing, If These Walls Could Talk.

TABLEAU: a group of models motionless figures representing a scene from a story or *history…a tableau vivant, picture, painting, representation, illustration, image, pageant, diorama, scene…The found shapes of this cardboard suggested alter pieces.
Brian Dowdall is recognized for his tempera & house paint on cardboard; the silhouette central figures suggested are tracings from Roy/Howard Finster wood cut out templates, *historical figures i.e. Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, etc. a simple homage to MOSET beer tabs were selected as recycled hooks.
Brian Dowdall visionary, is a painter of animal spirits and goddesses 36+ years.

AUSPICIOUS: Inspired by the ancient 8 auspicious signs, known in many cultures as, signs of future success, successfulness, prosperous or prosperity …favorable, propitious, promising, rosy, good, encouraging, opportune, timely, lucky, fortunate, provential, felicitous, advantageous …
In exploring these symbols: Conch “Truth”, Gold Fish “Freedom”, Parasol “Protection”, Wheel “Wisdom”, Banner “Victory”, Vessel “Abundance”, Knot “Infinity”, Lotus “Enlightenment” …these known symmetrical symbols were explored VIVENTLY with animation. 4 vertical small paintings revisited earlier imagery i.e. Kintugi, Junk Ship, Tingsha & Red Moon, Hamsa & Meditations integrated with sailing vessels.
